Digital Distribution Services

UV - Great idea, will edit when at a PC as currently on my mobile.

Kami - Will add when at PC also.

Hopefully this should become a deecent resource, couldn't find anything similiar when searching.

I've gotten a few games on Impulse - Sins, SupCom, and it's fine, no messing about and no limited downloads etc.

Bought from Gamersgate once aswell, again, no problems whatsoever.

There is also Metaboli. Not quite the same as those in the list but a digital distribution platform nonetheless.

Iirc, metaboli rents games for a subscription fee - you'll never actually own the game. It is a digital distribution service, but not one I'd ever use :p

@gimpy.. good man! :)

Please put a warning next to EADM like "DO NOT USE".

Not only is it schockingly badly designed, but it has a realy aweful way of screwing up if you try to install games on differant hard drives/partitions.

The part that ruins it is that you are basicaly renting a game at full price.

If you've got a lot of time on your hands it is probably the most cost effective way to play PC games. You could go through upwards of 5 games per month.

I purchased GRiD from Codemasters website which turned out to be distibuted by Metaboli, never again, simple as. Yes it's a big game but the d/l was SLOW and when the patches came out the wait for the Metaboli version was ridiculous and meant i could not race online with my friends who had wisely bought the retail version as the Metaboli patches were a week or more behind in being released.

i think people need to re-think this hate attitude to anything EA ...

All the games i have purchased through their online service are still available to download for free without any further charges ..

games that were purchased years ago like BF2142, the addons for BF2, Command & Conquer 3 plus its addons, Mass Effect, Spore etc etc are still available..

I own two games via the EADM, and the games work fine - but it's hardly a contender to Steam. The EADM just downloads the installer into a cache - you still have to install the game afterwards. Each game asks if I want to install EADM during their install, even when I already have EADM up and running! The application has no storefront, no community page, no friends function, no sales.. it's literally a download manager, and nothing else.

I don't hate EA per se, but they need to do something big for the gaming community to erase their connotations. Stop using ridiculous DRM, create a much better distribution service, and let UK customers buy their games on Steam, just like the rest of the world!
