I am trying to develop skills for digital marketing - SEO, PPC, Social Media ads etc.

Does anyone know what the best avenue would be to learn these? I have looked at masters programs but they seem very theoretical, I am after something that's highly practical.

Does anyone have any experience of doing such a thing?

Thanks.

Google offers some great free training on some of those areas here - https://skillshop.withgoogle.com/

Otherwise there's the usual Udemy etc.

Also, you might be best off looking to specialise. I work for the in-house agency at a very large health and beauty retailer, and we have separate teams for all aspects of digital marketing.

Agree on the specialisation front. Getting started, you might want to make yourself a sort of one man army -- but as with pretty much any field, specialisation is not only easier on you, it's more lucrative in the long run.

SEO is, in functional terms, a skill set that's entirely different to knowing your way around PPC campaigns. Copywriting is a fundamental skill, but that alone won't help you when it comes to conversion-focused UX design or understanding strategy and funnels.

For more practical stuff, check out Hubspot's free courses and training from Digital Marketer. DM's lab subscription is pretty good, and while their individual courses are hella expensive, get yourself on their mailing list and look out for bulk sales when they come around. Well worth it if you can get the lot as part of a single deal.

Funnily enough, the biggest money is to be had in strategy consultation -- building the framework for a business to then go off and use staff/freelancers for the actualisation. Business automation is huge these days, so you're on the right path in wanting to put effort into learning how all the pieces work and how they fit together.
