Looking to upgrade my media server which is on 24/7 anyways to also do some folding...
The general idea is to run 2 * GPU and some SMP clients on this thing and also do some overclocking, so I figured I would ask the venerable experts for some advice and sanity checking.......I couldn't find any venerable experts so you guys will have to do
The following is the proposed spec.....
MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
PNY GeForce 8800 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
I have all the other bits and it will be going in a Thermaltake armor with a TRUE and some Xilence/Yate fans... Any advice on the following would be appreciated.... (p.s. it will be on a Corsair 650 PSU)
1) I have read some bad reviews of the 750/780 series mobo's, the plan here is to run 2 GPU and have my 12 port RAID card in the third PCI-E slot which has my array on it.. Is there any issue with running this config that anyone can think of?
2) More to the folding crowd, does memory have any bearing on folding capability? I have a spare Leadtek 512MB which will sit alongside this 256MB one, other than the memory there is little difference in the two other than a hefty price difference.... Any foreseeable issues?
3) Any point going for better RAM if I am overclocking the CPU?
Thanks for replies in advance....
