So i deal with technical support for manufacturers such as Sharp and sanyo specifically their TV's and currentley in working dealing with incoming calls consistantly tearing my hair out over the complete morons ringing in asking for help with the digital switcher over (digital uk are completley incompetant)

heres a few examples on the some idiots bearing in mind these are not always elderly people as i can understand fully when elderly people get confused over it.

Me : Press the right arrow on your remote control
Cust: Which one is the right arrow?
Me: The arrow facing to the right on your remote control..
Cust: wears the arrows?
Me: Middle of the remote you cant miss them..
Cust: nope i can only see triangles going different directions

___

Me: What is the model of your Sharp TV?
Cust: its a sharp
Me: thats the manufacturer of the TV can you supply the model on the back of the TV on the white label will begin with LC
Cust : Its a sharp i told you already....

___

Me : Can i take the model number of your TV?
Cust : yes number is 0871...
Me : thats our contact telephone number can you provide the model number of your tv please..

___

Me: Can i take the model number of your TV please?
Cust: why do you need that?
Me: each of our sets have differnt remotes and menus in order for me to accuratly assist with helping you through the retune i will just need the model number to get accurate information on the unit you have.
Cust: you must be pretty useless if you dont know how to retune my tv!

__
Me: Can i take the model number?
Cust : its 01
Me: It begins with LC
Cust: yeah its 01

(kept repeating myself)

Cust : no your wrong its 01

So yeah all fun an games :)

working in a call centre is not recommended the amount of patience required dealing with customers of this nature is unreal :o

I would end up getting Sooooo sarcastic, then loose my temper with them!.. I wouldn't last an hour!!

Glad I just sit in a office drawing pictures all day!! :D

Its good to be reminded ocassionally that people are stupid.

Getting reminded constantly however would be infuriating

Used to work for the purple shirts along time ago and peoples total lack of under standing for technology never seemed to end.

It was just wave after wave of ignorance. :(

Really? I usually find it's the people wearing the purple shirts who sometimes literally have no clue. The amount of times I've gone in there for something and overheard a purple shirt talking utter bs is beyond belief! :p

You mean the high street computer store?

I know what you mean, I went in once and despite all my best efforts I couldn't take any of the staff seriously.

Too harsh? :p

Seriously, I couldn't work on tech support. I;d be out of a job in minutes.

This is one of the reasons that I swear I will never work in a call centre again.. too many calls of retardedness, I swear, for every one person that had a vauge idea of how to use the equipment they owned, there were a hundred that bought it cuz of the pretty lights..

If they are any thing like the sales people in my old place they would tell you anything to get you to by a product, I was a store man and the amount of crap I heard the sale people telling the customer was unreal. :(

But I had some one who insisted that they had been sold the wrong cable for their printer and it turn out that he had been trying to plug it into the usb expansion port and didn’t take 5 seconds out of his life to look round the back of it :(

Just a quick thought. There are many instances of silly people calling call centres for various reasons. I myself have had several instances of calling call centres and having had to deal with an idiot that was supposed to be able to help me.

How many of the other people working at the call centre with you are actually capable of helping beyond "follow what it says on the paper"?

aint that the truth. Mind you heard the same in tesco's eletrical department the other day.

The people are ringing up for help. Not everyone is technologically minded or even cares. Fair enough if they are rude to you, but meh.

Cust: wears the arrows?

How and where did they end up wearing the arrows? :o Also your customer was correct, really, even if only at a very pedantic level. If they're total n00bs then telling them to look for arrows when there are only triangles is wrong, albeit anyone with an IQ > 10 should be able to figure out what you were talking about. :p That said some remote buttons do feature actual arrows so I can see some (technically illiterate) people getting mixed up.

That said I agree with your sentiment. There's nothing like tech support to remind one of the stupidity of people!
