Parent is flapping about "having" to buy a new TV:rolleyes:
I'm not going to mention a set top box as the TV is out of the arc anyway and it's about time she was brought into the 21st Century:D

Being as I have a day off work today I said I'd make sure she didn't come back with a pile of poo.

Is my best choice going to be Panasonic... I'm sure she'll be whining about the cost anyway, otherwise I'd suggest a Pioneer.

Your thoughts on which one though.

I'm going to suggest a budget of £500, not sure yet how well that will be received

£500 is ball park for 37/42" Panasonic X10 Plasma.

It really depends on what size screen your parents are after?

Avoid the C10 as it lacks an anti-glare screen coating and I have read this can make it fustrating on a sunny day or such.

A lot of places price match. Take some print outs of the prices from competitors and haggle.

IMO a plasma will be better as an LCD + sun = glare problems.

Arrgh silly moo, it was only channel 5 moving home today.
The actual switchover for all channels isn't until 2011.

Yeah, most places had to retune today. The way they worded their warnings on TV though made it possible to think you needed a new freeview box, or TV in your case.

in some cases it was, the older panasonic tuc20-30 digi box's wint work properly with the re-tune, its the same with some of the dmres20's if they havent been updated when prompted which in most cases they havent, they will struggle to work aswell.

the phones at didnt stop ringing all day today, people panicing that they might lose a channel  ffs lol, all the pan tvs should prompt for a re-tune provided its not been turned off, the samsungs tho were a pita lol.

Samsung 32"

Out of the billion or so* 32" samsungs which one would you be referring to?

Panasonic - TX-P50X10 for 592 or Panasonic - TX-P50X10B for 689 if you know where to look

you do realise both those tv's are the same don't you?

All the B means is the TV was designated for UK distribution.
Oh and you are 100 and 200 quid over budget. :p

* might be a slight over exaggeration

As said though, unless the price comes down a bit they are too much money.
She was moaning about £500 as it was

The difference in glare between a glossy lcd and plasma are negligable really, but lcd's are brighter in strong daylight and that would swing in in lcd's favour.

that being said, do they really need to spend £500 on a tv? take them to the local sony centre, find the cheapest tv they do and ask them if its acceptable. If it is, look on the net for the cheapest price and buy it. Thats my advice.
