My grandad and grandma are after a digital tv recorder. They are looking for one that is easy to use and can play pictures from a photoframe (dvi input?)

They were looking at the Sony HXD970 (£250) or HXD870 (£209). I have read that you cannot recorder one channel and watch another one these as they only have one digital signal.

They then found the Thompson DTI6300 (£85) that says 'record 2 channels at the same time' or watch one and record one im guessing. But reviews for this one are crap.

Which player is for them? Has to have dvi input, 160gb +, be reliable and easy to use

Cheers

On a budget nothing touches DigiFusion which can be bought for £40. (80Gb Dual tuner) These can also be upgraded very easily.

As far as the best goes then look at Humax and topfield PVR's.

You're not going to find anything with a PC Input (DVI or VGA). Cheap Freeview PVRs like the Thomson have no AV inputs therefore it can' t record from anything else other than the onboard Freeview tuner.

Your best bet is probably something like a Panasonic HDD recorder. The DMR-EX78 will record to hard drive or DVD, play normal DVDs and also JPEG/MP3 files from SD cards.

tesco had one for £40 (goodmans iirc) which had hdmi output, you could get a hdmi to dvi cable then your away.

edit: i see you want a recorder....maybe not then, ive got a panasonic, cost about £150 but it is worth it in the long run.

The dvi in requirement is unusual and is going to double your bill for a recorder and may prevent your getting a dual channel recorder (at leaste record one, watch a seaprate one is esssential belive me)

They must be loading up the photoframe somehow (memory card?) would be easier to get a dvd player or recorder and bang the photos on to a photodisc or possibly get a dvd with a memory card reader and a cheaper PVR.
