Hey, I am after some advice on this if possible.

I have applied for a Teacher training position at work, they have helped me to get onto it but unfortunately due to various issues surrounding GCSE's and UNI entry requirements there is a small possibility it could be delayed for a year (no big deal tbh.)

The issue i have is that they want to recruit my replacement this side of the school holiday's. Which is fine if it was 100% i am going to be granted access onto the course.

If for example i was unable to gain access due to what ever reason this year i would obviously want to keep my job, and i expressed this fact before i started the whole application.

They have asked for my resignation (post dated) ASAP, so that they can start recruitment. Which i am not happy with doing until i know for sure i am on the course. Or at the very least i have done my replacement iGCSE exam and have a good enough feeling i have passed it. (the requirement to get into the course, make note! GCSE's are VERY important later in life and can cause stupid issues if you don't pay attention in school...)

Am i entitled to ignore their request and simply hand my notice in as soon as i know for sure? or do i allow them to push me into doing it early? I don't want to loose this job if i am unsuccessful, i enjoy it and it would also reduce my access into the training again next year if i wasn't here.

:(

Yea, kinda had to tell them as they processed the application.

I'm leaning towards just waiting till august then handing in my notice as normal. It's the schools fault they don't have any HR working in August and I should not be made to feel guilty about it.

also there is the side that I don't want to upset them as I will be training here and seeing them every day as normal...

I will update this as i made a decision.

I took one of the exams i required yesterday, all went well (i think).
next one is on Monday, and i will know the outcome of that one within 1 week.

if that comes back as a pass i will hand in my post dated resignation.

This way, i can be confident that I'm on the teacher training program, along with giving them plenty of time to look for a replacement.

Do i have any right to ask to be on the interview panel for my replacement?

Well there is always the risk that I flopped the main one of which I don't get the result till the 26th August.
But that's a risk I'm forced to take.

Apart from all that, yes that's the last one. I plan to hand the resignation in around the 10th of july

Good man! We are in dire need of good teachers! Providing you are good at what you do you should have scope to progress very quickly indeed!

To give you an idea, I made HoD at the end of my 3rd year!

Coming to the end of my 5th now and so far have gone through 6 teachers who came and went for various reasons but they all had one thing in common - they were not great teachers of CompSci!

Wow 3 years? That was quick! How do you find the work load?

Weather or not I'm a good teacher is yet to be known, i shall find out during the next 12 months :)

I have forgotten everything i learnt at uni because i didn't use the information again. Which means i will have to relearn a lot of stuff.
Thankfully i will be teaching year 7 mostly, so i can brush up on what is required quickly.

I watch how the teachers here teach, and i don't know if i could do it how they do; i will need to come up with my own style of teaching.

It shall be a fun, challenging and interesting year ahead.
