Okay, for christmas i will be getting a 30" Dell Monitor, and right now i have a BFG8800GTS (640mb), which will not run any games at any resolution i would like on it.

My question is, what combo for ~500-550 do i go for from below?

One 8800Ultra
Two 8800GTS (g92)
Two 8800GT's (save some cash)

Or do i go the extra and buy two GTX's?

Even then i doubt playing something like CoD4 would be possible at 2550x1600, but as close to as possible would be great.

Help me spend some money OCUK :)

Rest of the spec will be the following

Asus striker extreme, 4gb pc8500 corsair dominator, q6600, 2x Raptor X's

When i said help me spend some money i didnt say help me choose the most expensive option!

:)

You have confirmed what i thought though, i'll have to look into it ^^

not worth it !!!

go for 2 x GT's SLi .. will only cost you around #320 .. the performance difference would be almost zero.

simply not worth the extra for the GTS im afraid and 2 of these will cost you upwards of #100 more than the equivalent GT'S.

The new Flagship cards are in Feb 2008, Nvidia have already said the Ultra is the big daddy till then.

I would not buy any GTX or Ultra today even though both are still faster than the new GT and GTS.

This is what i was thinking, but.. my 640mb gts certainly wont run CoD4 at anything like 1900x1200+ at any kind of playable frame rate.. do i live with that until february when the new cards will POSSIBLY be released, or what? This is why i was thinking ultra, one ultra would be easier to sell than two gtx's i suppose, but good god the expense :(

Unless you get a good deal on an ultra like me.. :P £265 inc postage! Should retain most of the value even when 9800 hits.

Your current card is a pretty, keep it till the Nvidia 9 series comes out in the new year. You won't be doing your monitor justice till then I reckon.

Don't waste your hard earned cash on products that will shortly be old school. You have an amazing monitor, get the amazing card. Just be patient.

p.s. Not to mention the R700 from ATI, but no mention of when they will be out yet :(

MY GTS 640 plays COD 4 at 1900x1080 no problem at all, admitidly no AA etc but other than that all the eye candy is on and I get 50+ fps no problem, feels very smooth when you play it. So I’d say stick with it until the 9***

That said I’ve sold mine and am waiting for the GT to be in stock (and at a normal price) or the new GTS to actual sell for their value and not +50 due to low availability.
