I am already the owner of a lovely white MacBook which I have had for 18 months, 1.83ghz, 2gig ram, 60gig hdd.

My dad would like a MacBook too, for occasional office use when hes travelling so wants to take mine off me and will give me the £600 it would have cost for a new MacBook, now do I just buy a new basic white one, 2.1ghz, i'll put in my 2gb ram, 120gb hdd or do I put in an extra £500 and get an Air?

I think the lack of optical will annoy me as it will be my only machine though....

Another possible avenue is that my younger sister will be going to uni in september and was wanting a MacBook too, so shall I just get a White 2.1ghz one, give this to her at end of September and then look at my options again?

I'd love to get a new updated MacBook but I fear that it will be out come December/January 2009 and i'll be without a laptop for a few months?

edit: or a MacBook Pro?! Is it much bigger than the MacBook for lugging around in my bag?

Ideas?

Well i've looked into it, the MBP is a bit thinner, 3.2cm wider and 1.6cm deeper, which isn't too bad. What are the likely changes to the new MacBook?

What do you mean?

What are the likely changes going to be for the new MacBook? Obviously the multi gesture touch pad, but physical changes?

I will have roughly the same dilemma soon, I to have a White MacBook (sig) and it will be 2 years old in September (I think) I've always intended upgrading my Laptop every 2 years.

After much research I've come to the conclusion that the Macbook asn't actually changed that much over time and i am now leaning towards the 15" Pro as it seems a more capable and sleeker machine and of course it will be a visible jump from a MacBook which I think old to new MacBook won't be.

Your very lucky to be able to get that sort of money back for your MacBook, Take it and buy the basic MacBook Pro 15" + Remote then source 2GB of extra memory from somewhere.

That's what I'll be Doing ;)

Aye, was thinking that, will my 2gig of ram in my MacBook work in the Pro? If so then i imagine 4gb of ram would help the machine fly! My jumps have been from 12" iBook to Macbook, so I guess the next logical change would be the Pro.

Just been looking at the Pro on the website and it does look fantastic. Is the volume louder on those compared to the MB? I think the higher resolution will be nice as well as the sharper graphics. Does the casing get marked or damaged easily?

I find the Macbook really quiet compared to other laptops. Anyone have any pics comparing the Macbook to Macbook pro side by side?

Found some

The issue is however, i'd be without a laptop end of september...so i'd have to think of a solution around that time, i'm hoping they will announce the new one before then maybe? What are the chances?

The thing that i'm questioning is, i'd have had a Macbook for 2 years, if I got another new one, i'd want to keep it for another 2 years or so, thats quite a long time for a machine and i'd be upgrading to one that is pretty much exactly the same albiet a bit quicker, with a MBP at least i'd have something different to play with for 2 years..

Which insurance policy is that? I can afford it, thats not a problem, ill see what the situation is with the laptops and then order a Pro at the end of September.
