Dimms side by side, or in the blue slots?

Hi I'm new here, so hi

I am on a new build and regarding memory I have 4gig corsair 16000mhz, do I place them side by side or in the blue slots as per motherboard instructions. I'm sure from memory lol, that memory side by side is more eufficient due to the dual channel mapping or am I miles off?

The instructions say its best in the blue slots because of oc capabilities, so that's what I've done but I don't intende to oc my memory right know, if anyone could remind me I'd be very grateful..

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You normally need to put the RAM in slots of the same colour for dual channel operation.

This usually results in a gap between the sticks of RAM.

If you give details of your exact motherboard we can check for you.
 
It's a asus, p8z77-v lx.

Also if you can help! the memory I have is 1.65v, it says ,again, in the mobo book my memory is in the qualified vendors list so presumably it's fine.? Can anyone confirm please, I'd be very grateful.

The recommended configuration for dual channel operation is to use both the blue slots.

Which particular RAM do you have?

If you have a Sandy Bridge CPU then you want to keep the DRAM voltage at 1.60V or less if possible.

With an Ivy Bridge CPU it may matter less.

Quite often 1.65V RAM will run with less voltage.

If your RAM has an XMP profile then just enable that in the BIOS and you can then set the DRAM voltage manually, perhaps try 1.55V which most will work at.
 
That RAM usually works with quite a bit less than 1.65V.

You may be OK @ 1.65V with Ivy Bridge but if you want to lower it a little then I suggest you start with 1.55V as most times that will be fine.

If you have problems at 1.55V you can increase it a touch.

If it's fine at 1.55V then just leave it at that or try and tweak it down a little further if you wish.
