I find Steve Carrell very hit and miss to be honest.
Well watched a minute of the trailer and shockingly, both actors are playing the EXACT same character they always play in everything and the first few jokes are just Carroll being a bit loud and embarassing and the other guy being a bit of a ****.
The formula is soooooo boring and old, that doesn't mean the formula for that kind of film can't make a film with a few good jokes in it, but it won't ever be a "great" film because well, at every stage of the film you'll be thinking "i've seen this before haven't I?". Its a shame because Caroll does seem like he can act, he's done maybe one/two films as a fairly different character although he still plays what end up being slightly loser/shy guys, just in a couple of drama/girlie flicks rather than mostly crude comedy films.
Date Night was the same, its a bad film, it doesn't mean there weren't funny moments, and I didn't actually hate it, doesn't stop it being a bad film though, it was generic, mostly old jokes, horrible actual acting, mostly crap script, lots of very unfunny jokes and it just felt like such a tired and dull idea.
