After several years away from owning a motorbike I'm now dipping my toe back in.... given that my garage still have enough to build most of a CBR engine from bits I didn't do a very good job I getting rid of the evidence....

I went into local bike shop owner says "Hello Dan we haven't seen you for several years" or words to that effect lol...
He knows my history and explained it to his new staff followed by "don't buy a sportsbike.." lol
Then when I said I was looking at RSV Mille's he said "don't even go there" before explaining to the staff the last one I had ended up in the side of a van at 100mph+...funnily enough everyone I've mentioned it to has given me a telling off... Lol

Thinking SV650 as budget of £2k. Although toying with idea of buying a broken bike and fixing it up...

You could have picked up a cheap second hand CBR engine and fitted that?

Plenty of cat c and d's on eBay by the time you've sourced the bits needed though I bet it doesn't work out much cheaper than buying a non damaged machine

Er6f and Honda hornets seem a good all-round bike aswell

Looking at 2002-2005 for all bikes tbh.

Contemplating a Bandit 600. Unsure on the bars though due to my inability to straighten my right arm and slow speed manoeuvring.

Basically I want a cheap bike to buy, run and insure.

Fazer 60 is a possibility as a mate has a 1998 model and he rates it once you fit an R6 shock and sort forks to firm it up.

nice vfr800?

comfy sporty but the V engine is nice an smooth and doesn't need the revs as much as the inline 4 600s.

get the 98-01 version, no cam chains to worry about chain adjustment is an eccentric bearing so 2 seconds with a special wrench instead of trying to align it.

Sorry, should have put £1500 limit - a VFR fetches far more than that. :)

Ideally an 01/02 CBR as I have lots of spares - cylinder head/pistons/engine covers/plugs/leads/starter motors/cranks etc. Stuff left over from when I used to race one.

I'm thinking an 01/02 SV. Want a Twin ideally. More character and feel.

Nearly bought a Cat C RSV Mille which was a cheap price.... he sold it before I went to view it... :(

You should be able to get a pointy SV for that money, I'd avoid the '03 since they're a bit different to all the others so harder to get parts but '04-'06 should be just in reach at 1.5k if you're not worried about 20k+ miles or a cat C/D.

Not seen any go for that price on autotrader tbh. I found they started at £1800 or abouts. I was ignoring the Cat C's though

I got my '05 for a shade under 2k, that was from a dealer you can get a fair bit more for your money in terms of added aftermarket parts if you buy private from somewhere like sv650.org

Cheers all. Very useful info.

Was looking at a Cat C RSV Mille but he had sold it before I went to view it.... after I started asking questions about the V5 he had suddenly 'sold it' 11pm at night...

I can't afford a motorbike until September anyway...
