I have two Vista x64 PCs next to each other. Both connect to the wireless network for internet access. But of course large file transfers are painfully slow. I've plugged a network cable between the two, and it shows up in the connection centre on each machine as an unidentified public network. Is it possible to have file transfers done directly using the cable, if so, how ?

thanks

Disconnect the wireless?

You can alter the priorities of the network adapters in Manage Network Connections (might not be the exact name, the one with all the network cards), then hold Alt and look for Advanced in the menu that appears.

Indeed, I just disconnected from the wireless and it forced the file transfer to use the cabled connection :) I'd rather not have to do that though - the priorites sounds lime the fix, I'll take a look
