Direct Line must be on crack!

I'm with Admiral and do not agree with you.

I paid £700 for my CTR last year with Admiral and they send me a renewal quote for £940.

I go on comparethemarket get a cheap quote of £690 and then get Admiral to match it.

So Admiral are just as shady. You can't blame them though as if you don't shop around you deserve to pay over the odds. It's smart business sense.

Yes, but was the new 690 quote from Admiral or someone else?

I'm with Bell (same company) and for the past 3 years they have been both the cheapest and their renewal quote matched what their new customer quote would be

No it was someone else. Admiral as a new customer was also very close to that but chose to sting me on my renewal for about £200 more.

I had been with directline my entire driving life until may last year, the renewal was up from 1400 to 3000!!!! Phoned up and they reduced to 2100. you can imagine where i told them to get off! Paid 1100 to admiral instead, who had previously been at least 30% more than directline.

My sister noticed the same with always having been with directline until they went mad this year, and she's 28!

£1500? Do you live in the Bronx?

I would never pay over £600 for insurance

What do you pay now and what do you drive? Good cars for under £600 in your 20's are rare. Not impossible (Mine has been £400 for the last 2 years), but rare (It'll go above £600 for my next car).

Same happened with me with Directline although not quite as steep, wanted to bump my premium from £650 to £1300. went online and found it for £595 :)

The daily 'my renewal quote is higher than it was last year' thread is getting tiresome now :p

My renewal quote was actually lower this year, and was in fact cheaper than anything I could find on comparison sites. :p

I didn't say it was. Was just stating that they aren't the same. At all.

It is a fair point, you're quite right. The level of cover is different. However, I don't consider it £1500 difference, especially when the same cover was £1000 less this time last year.

I'll take my chances and save myself £1500.

I wouldnt pay over £300 and never have, in the end, paying a grand, or in some cases two, is just insane.

It depends on your circumstances and priorities though doesn't it. I found myself in the position where I had the chance to drive a nice car which most people my age wouldn't get.

I have a steady income and no major commitments, I did the sums and worked out that I could afford the running costs of such a car so why shouldn't I?

Life is for living and I'm never going to get the chance again to be a 24/25 year old driving a 530d.

Having said that, there is a limit and this renewal quote was pushing it.

Why is your insurance so much? I never paid more than £1200 to insure my 530i and I got it when I was 22. Then I crashed it and had no NCB and a fault claim and it still wasnt as high as yours when I was 23!

Good question. It might be because I'm not the owner of the car but I'm not sure how much that would affect it.

I do know that I live in an expensive postcode because the premium went up from £1200 to £1500 when I moved here so I guess it's a combination of things.

My insurance has always been fairly terrible despite my age/no claims. 33 now with 7 years no claims and my renewal on a 2.0 mondeo is 600 quid. Looking around the best i can find is 490. I believe my postcode is the problem which is listed as "refer". If i pop in an Aberdeen postcode it drops to less than £200

To be fair, you clearly did not read the OP :p

I'm not looking forward to my S2000 renewal, seeing as some companies refused any new S2000 business and renewals (!) last year.

Mine was £20 less, people just like to whinge on the internet before bothering to look around.
