Anyone happen to know if theres a set time for new Direct X 10 graphics cards being made available, or is no information available at the minute and no dates finalised?

I need to get a replacement GPU, this ones gone a bit dodgy after a overclocking attempt that went wrong when the cooler came off (dont ask... :p ), and was wondering if DirectX 10 is coming soon. If its not long I'll just wait before replacing the Graphics card.

Cheers!

Most likely november for g80 and january for r600. Nothing confirmed yet though.

You might want to just get a dx9 card if you really need one now. Maybe an evga then step up if they're any good.

DX10 cards will probably be out Q1 2007 or closer to Vista release. Are you planning on upgrading to Vista because if not just get the best card at the moment.

DEVs any chance of a sticky for DX10 so that we get less threads asking about it. Maybe one that can be updated with more info when it's leaked.

upgrade to Vista as sson as it comes out?

No thanks, I like stability, and am not a fan of being a "beta" tester for an OS, cheers all the same Microsoft. ;) I'll be waiting for the first Service Pack for it to come out before I even consider the damn thing, to see what other peoples opinions and experiences of the thing are first.

So, DirextX 10 is only compatible with Vista, yes?

If so....I see OCUK has a nice little bunble going on a Intel Core 2 DUO that I might take avantage of at the same time. I'm currently only on AGP and DDRI :o , so I'll need to step up to DDRII and PCI-X soon anyway.

November is G80, with DX10 coming around Jan/Feb, so you can't use DX10 on your G80 till then (as you have to get Vista to), R600 is supposed to be around then to (Jan/Feb), i would'nt get a DX10 card for about a year yet, as nothings using it, and what does looks identical on a DX9 card and under XP, or if you want the fastest DX9 card around then go for a DX10 card as they will be the fastest DX9 cards availabe (which is all the G80/R600 are good for really DX9), just don't expect to have lots of stuff using DX10, and it not looking identical to DX9 for over a year, by which time your G80/R600 will be well old as a load of faster, better DX10 cards would have appeared by then.

If you have a high end DX9 card now, then theres no point getting a DX10 one when they appear as your DX9 card will run everything fine for ages yet, so you can get a DX10 card when theres actually someting out using it more, and its worth having, and that wont be G80/R600 as they will have been well passed by lados of cards as said.

If you have a low end card then yes, go for a DX10 one as it will be the fastest DX9 card around. :)

If your on AGP then a G80/R600 would be a cracking upgrade for you. :D

Perhaps if you were a fan of beta testing, you'd have been using Longhorn/Vista through Beta1 into Beta2/pre-RC1 and now RC1, and you'd know that its pretty darn stable actually.

I for one will be upgrading to vista as soon as I can get hold of a copy of Ultimate (just realised this sounds bad, I mean legitimately get a copy).

DX10 is Vista only, yes.

Actually iv been running on RC1 as well and it is extremely stable!
I was actually fairly impressed with it!

RC2 should be out around the end of november i believe as a lot of drivers are gonna be expiring then! So im fairly comfident of getting vista when its released now!

Anyways my 7600gt is gonna do me until g80 or the r800 il decide when i see more tho!

*beats original poster repeatedly with a tyre iron for not using the damn search function...*

have you any idea how many times this has been asked ??? it must be the single most reposted thing on the entire forum. Why are people so afraid to use the search button    and this time its from an established member too...

Well I have one X1950X at the moment but it doesn't quite cut the mustard on my 30 inch LCD. I have the master card on pre-order, hopefully that will make everything run smoothly when it arrives.

If it doesn't then I'll live with it until R600 is out.

Nope that correct

100% correct as well. Due to the new driver architecture for video cards within vista, Microsoft will not be updating directx on any platform other than vista.

In a lot of the DX10 posts people say January for vista, is there actually confirmation for this, I have heard of the business editions being available then but AFAIK its April-May time for us normal consumers

Also i belive things are a lot further off then you think, We dont even have a beta SLI driver with poor performace yet nevermind good and if you mosey over to creative labs forums you will find that they have to totally rewrite their drivers from scratch for vista and have basically only just got going, Doesnt sound good on the gamining/performance front for a while

Vista may be out by the end of the year but what about games for it, all I've seen is Crysis and Halo 2 which I played on Xbox last year!! Other than that it will probably be 360 ports which I could play without the upgrade. Get an X1800XT for £135 and that will do you proud until enough games are out to make a DX10 upgrade worthwhile.
