ok in simple terms, The nice shiney Geforce 8800 with its Awsome power and odd RAM amounts, is DX10 compatiable? yes? now does that mean when DX10 comes out cards like mine will no longer run DX10? as in the X1950 XTX?

if so then whats the point in bringing out something that forces users to buy something they maynot want to but?

DX10 games will be dx9 backwards compatible...but of course they won't have the nifty DX10 eyecandy enabled.

Oh so in simple terms, with Windows Vista Comes DX10 or just after it, what will DX10 actualy do? i know this is stupid but what does DX actualy do?

so when DX10 comes out it will Run on older cards, but something like the 8800 will have a bit of extra eye candy?

What directx actually does is complicated, but explained here. To run dx 10 you need a dx 10 card, such as the 8800. You won't get dx 10 running on anything older than that. Applications such as Vista and games will run on older cards. Games will have to be played in dx 9 mode as dx 10 will not run on non dx 10 compatible cards.

And for further notice, just to let you know, this is a different type of 'Graphics', this sort of question will be totally fulfilled in the 'Graphics Cards' sub-forum if you have a look, but welcome to where all the cool people hang out. :)
