Direct X error whilst playing battlefield 4

Today whilst playing battlefield 4 I had the game randomly drop out and a Direct X error message appeared. I went to check the temperatures as my GTX660s run quite hot and noticed one was gone off the temperature monitoring software as well as being gone from NVidia control panel.

I thought this a bit strange as driver issues usually correct themselves and the card comes back but in this case I had to reboot to get it back. The fans were still going at normal speed on both cards and temperatures were not overly hot (max was 82C).

I'm running the latest drivers from NVidia and the cards are EVGA GTX660s. Is it likely to just be a driver issue with battlefield 4 (as its new out) or could I be having problems with one of my gpus.

I'm having the same, every so often the game just will crash. I have a i7 3770k and I disabled hyper threading and that made me able to play for longer without crashing but it still would occur.

Maybe it's a combination of BF4 being released in a shoddy condition and also maybe driver related.

Have you tried playing with SLI switched off? I have yet to try it but I've pretty much given up with the game for the time being.

That interesting to know I have a 3770k too although I doubt a CPU would cause crashes. I noticed you are using 660ti's in SLI could well be an NVidia driver issue then. I think ill just have to put up with it for now, it has only happened once so far and I've played for a few hours.

I could hardly play the game when I first loaded it, was getting about 2fps, turns out it was drivers then too which was what made me update. Don't know why battlefield games always need drivers I had similar issues with Battlefield 3 on release.

Guys, rule of thumb. If you have Ambient Occlusion OFF, and you still get DX issues, either play either at DX9 mode, or Windows 7.

There were many who came to blame Sim City as the worst game ever, however BF4 has more issues a week later than Sim City had :)

Hi Chaps, Theres loads of BF4 Crashes and DIce are aware of them and working on Client updates as well. ITs a pain It crashes randomly on mine. Only game to do so !

Just an update on this, played again yesterday, no direct X errors now but I keep losing sound although I think this is common too. I still lose on of my GPUs when playing. The game seemed to run fine in ultra on one gnu, so well in fact I didn't notice I was lacking the second one only noticing after when I went to check my temperatures and one was gone again.
