i`m using vista 64bit with dx10 installed. if i have a game that specifies it needs dx9.oc will i have to install that version as well or is dx10 backwards compatible?
As far as I know, Vista already has or is compatible with previous versions of Direct X, so you should be fine. I've never had to install any version of Direct X on my machine.
thanks mate, only reason i`m asking is i just finished the game Crysis, un-installed it and installed tombraider underworld but when i start the game all i can see is laras eyes and ponytail on a brown background with some clouds at the top of the screen. i just thought it might be a dx problem
Normally if a game requires Direct X and the version is not installed on the machine, it will ask you to install it. Me thinks your problem may lie with graphic drivers. Do you have the latest ones installed?
i think i have but ill check and maybe try re-installing them. the only reason i didn`t try this first is that i just played Crysis from start to finish without any probs.

hi again.
just thought i let you know i managed to get it sorted.
i went into the ati ccc and set it to standard settings and it runs fine.
i forgot that i did a bit of tweaking to get crysis running just right.
might have had something set to high
