Hi Guys,

I have a Windows XP setup on my machine, which has a Q6600 CPU, GTX460 (768mb) graphics card and 4 gig of RAM.

I mainly play F1 2011.

Obviously being windows XP means I am stuck at Direct X 9.0c.

Is it worth upgrading to Windows 7 so I can go to DX 11, would I se a noticeable difference or would the bigger operating system mean things would actually be slower.

PS I (think):confused: am aware that windows 7 would be able to access the full 4GB of memory??

Any advice would be greatly received

Cheers

Matt :):)

You need a 64bit OS to use more than 4GB or RAM, your GTX460 is DirectX 11 capable but it depends on if the game itself supports it, if it does not then there isn't much point in upgrading when you look at it like that. However, Windows 7 is far far FAR superior to XP in every way possible so just for that I would advise to change OS.

Your computer is begging for Windows 7 64 Bit. You should have upgraded a year ago!

Also things will be faster. Windows 7 is much better at managing resources than XP. I'm not saying you'll get an increase in FPS, but overall operating system performance will feel 'snappier' and vastly more refined. :)

I run F1 2011 on my system which is Windows7 64bit and its flawless runs like a dream.

If you upgrade you might see a slight difference as well since you have 4gig of memory
and your graphics card also has 1 gig of memory which means that Windows XP is not
using 1 gig of the memory that you actually have, I would recommend the upgrade.

Cheers Guys,

And many thanks for your comments, I have viewed a few comparison videos between DX9 and DX11 and I gotta be honest and say I can't really see any difference (is it just me being thick) or is there little or know difference.:confused:

Also my graphics card isn't the 1Gig version its only the 768mb version.

Many thanks

You may not gain much performance but you certainly won't lose any performance, so what have you got to lose eh?

would def upgrade, although most games now use various editions of dx its better you upgrade to windows 7 now, get it out of the way I say.

Other than the obvious cost, there is simply no reason to remain on XP. Moving to Windows 7 will give advantages beyond just DirectX 11.
