Been reading a lot of threads saying DX10 will not support some hards was just wondering if it would support and run well with a

ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ***Crossfire/Master Edition*** SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4 (PCI-Express) - Retail

Thanks in advance

No.

The only DX10 compatible card right now is the nvidia 8-series.

and the ATI R600 will be released in a few weeks

Also it's not that DX10 doesn't support some hardware....its the hardware that doesn't support DX10

AFAIK - that is a DX9 card. You'll need to buy one of the new ATi cards being released soonish - they'll be the ones supporting DX10.

Alternatively, you could go down the Nvidia route and get one of the 8800 series cards - which currently support DX10.

However, there aren't any DX10 games out at the moment; and by the time they are mainstream - it's likely that the current DX10 cards will be old tech and outperformed.

outperformed maybe...but old tech? They are still quite powerful and I would imagine they will be fast for awhile

No it wouldn't.

It's a powerful DX9 cards and I imagine DX10 games will still support DX9 mode for older cards - in other words this card will still play new games but without all the DX10 goodies.

TBH for the same price you can get a DX10 card like the 8800GTS or wait a month or so for the R600 cards around the same price.

when DX10 actually eventually comes into play, the 8800's and the new ati R600 cards will be classed as bottom of the directX10 card range.

a bit like for example a nvidia 5series or lower, they can run directx 9 but there slow on new directx 9 games.

but wait till the new R600 ati card is out in a few weeks time then decide what to do from there.

but once there releised dont wait or you will be waitin for ever for new stuff

can only class a card as bottom of the range if there is something above it.

since g90 and r700 don;t exist, g80 can be classed as the highend card and will be until faster products arrive.

but i doubt dx10 will slow down g80 much, microsoft have said that dx10 is 6 times as fast as a dx9 so expect the g80 to perform 6 times faster in vista than in xp once the drivers are sorted out.

then again microsoft could be full of it.

The second statement seems a lot more likely than the first :)

They have never said it will be 6 times faster, expecting 6 times the performance going from DX9->DX10 is insane.

DX10 will have less of a CPU overhead than DX9, so it will give a bit of a boost, but I wouldn't expect more than a few percent.

DX 10 isn't just about the fancy stuff though is it, it's supposed to make actually making the games the bit easier for the devs. Or so I thought...
