Directline - name driver no claim bonus

Not sure about other companies, but the direct line NCB thing is subject to conditions, age and driving experience mainly.

Its not all its cracked up to be.

i know that ford insurance include time on a provisional license as experience, wonder if they include named driver no claims or not

For the missus it's ace. Her insurance will be £420/year comp on a Prelude 2.2 VTEC. Would be over £800 anywhere else.

same for my OH. We saved over 400 quid that way :D

Just for reference Direct Line actually do a specific partner policy (wheras named driver can be a friend/relative etc) that gives you (i think) 10% discount as your partner has a financial interest in your car. Only found out about it yesterday so I'm not 100% sure but it was even cheaper to do the 'partner' policy than adding him as a named driver. Give them a ring and ask them about it.

Actually I've been a named driver (son) for the past 4 years with no no claims built up. I thought it was high time I got no claims as well

Do they actually give you proper no claims, or will they only take it into account if you buy insurance from them.

Just asking as through this I should have a years (2 if they include provisional time) no claims, but it would be cheaper through elephant. Elephant have told me that they will accept named driver no claims as long as direct line send out proof.

It doesn't say if they will on the website, so has anyone tried it?

I think it's only if you get the insurance with them. But you'd have to ring and ask them to make sure. I'd be interested when you do find out.

Edit: it says this on the home page:

This means that when we provide your named drivers with a quote for Direct Line car insurance, we’ll recognise every year they haven’t made a claim on your policy.

So yes, it's just with them. Might be worth doing it for a year or two then taking the NCB to Elephant?
