DirectX 11 Gaming in 4K

Imagine the reaction of PC gamers when you suggest they play something at 29Hz. :p I also don't think that size of screen is particularly practical at that viewing distance regardless of the resolution - I'd know, I've tried using a 51" TV on a desk and it was not pleasant just due to the sheer size. And the PPI is lower than on a 1920 x 1080 27" screen, you do realise?

Personally I am more excited about advancements in image quality beyond resolution. Things that users can benefit from even if they don't have a monstrous system (OLED, for example). Even so it's an interesting development and I'm keen to see what monitor manufacturers come up with in the coming months and years.

I be happy, very happy with a 30" 4k OLED monitor, might be 12 months away though.:(

It is going to be more than a year before we see 24-30" OLED monitors of any description (let alone 4K). And they certainly won't be priced similarly to even higher end LCDs. The first 'large OLED screen' on the market is going to be the LG 55EM9700 (55EM970V UK designation) which will be going for around $12,000 (£9500+).

I know that LG are revamping their production facilities for both large panel (TV) production and '5.5 gen IT line' which should have the capacity to make monitor-sized panels. So things are certainly going in the right direction, but having followed the patch of OLED for several years now I think you'd be looking at 3 years+ for what you're after at even a semi decent price. And I'm doubtful the initial hypothetical OLED monitors will offer that sort of resolution. TVs yes (with their cheating upscaling) but not monitors.

This. It's all about dat PPI. Now if there was a 30" 4k screen that would be deadly.
