Hi anyone can help clarify the limitations of downloading this game from GFW .
I have never downloaded a game before (at least from official sources )
Have been finding it hard to find in our local shops on PC . I prefer a physical copy on a disk but was toying with the idea of downloading from GFW .
However in the small print it goes on to mention about containing DRM software which may stay in your pc even after uninstalling the game .
What limits will i have with this game , Will i be able to copy it on to a disk for backup ect ?
And more importantly will this software effect any other part of my pc ? Would it start scanning my entire system for copyright infringement for eg ?
Prehaps someone may recommend a site better than GFW Legit as i want multiplayer .
Anyhelp guys before I do or dont
Cheers

Steam is a good one :)

You can't find it in stores because its a digital download only in the UK.

Could always order it from Holland or something to get a disk.

I believe with GFW, the DRM that remains after uninstalling the game is just the GFW client, which you can uninstall separately easy enough. There's nothing epically naughty about it, it's not scanning anything, and it's only running if you've told it to.

You'll have this DRM regardless of where you buy the game as it's a GFWL title. I'd buy it from where-ever you're happy getting digital games from, as Murray says, there's no Retail PC copy for the UK. You'll get it cheaper from some places, but with better download services from others.

Might need a someone else to confirm further though.

Thanks so its safe to download it from an official source . Iv got steam account somewhere for Black ops for my son, which would be the most popular or best to source from , I see from a quick overview that they offer chat n other stuff
Which would be the most usable ?
cheers .

cheers guys in the process of going via steam , have started through them so ill see it through . Just hope it worth £30 I was happy with grid till CM shut down the multiplayer servers , can play elswhere but it not the same without the rankings .
thanks again

Dirt3 is only a digital download in UK. Codemasters blagged us by saying no demand for it from UK retailors even though they were making an EU PC-DVD version just not sellign in UK as digital margins are massive vs retail margins.

Best place to buy it was actually Games For Windows Marketplace or D2D as once installed no need to have the client running. If you buy on Steam then every single time Steam will startup as well even though its only being used to enforce the DRM. Steam also refuses to let you open the Games For Windows Marketplace client at the same time to get the free DLC so you have to close Steam then download it from GFWM & relaunch Steam after.

Yeah i was looking at GFW marketplace and was wondering If that free download would work with the steam verson which is downloading now . I was tinkering around and i decided to click on it to see what happens . That before I started a download from steam, So im wondering if it in me hard drive somewhere already , also would steam have a version ?
This my first time doing one of these downloads , steam didnt give me the chance to select the containing folder as there was already a steam application on me C drive. Wondering what issues i will encounter if I try to migrate it over to my other drive with the dedicated games folder ?

If you downloaded the DLC through GFW (which is the only place you can get that particular DLC) it'll work fine with the Steam version. :) The fact that you've downloaded it before you've downloaded the Steam version wont make any odds, it'll still work when you launch the game.

Steam games always install to:

\Steam\steamapps\common

If you want to move your entire Steam folder, or just a single game it's pretty easy to do. :) There's some details on good ways of doing it in the FAQ at the top of this forum.
