Dirt cheap student car

I got my licence at 17. i might not get insured yet. depends on the moneys. but if i wait till im 20 (Next year).
How much do you reckon I'll get taken off an average quote ?

well put it this way, if I enter a passed date for when i was 17, quotes are usually cut in half or even more, for an import civic anyway.

i dont get the mondeo thing, they are rank.

if you are young i would have a hatch back personally - clio, 106, 306 etc.

This place has a weird masochistic fixation with mondeos, I don't understand it either.
The one at work may have done about 250,000 miles but it still is and always has been a turd of a car, that needs work every MOT, probably the most horrid thing to drive also, all wallowy, gutless and lacks ANY sort of feedback to the driver, other than the feeling that it's about to break.. (although to be fair it never does :D )

Becuase its done a quarter of a million miles, duh.

Shock as shagged old Mondeo feels like a shagged old Mondeo.

It's still a piece of **** which ever way you look at it and the point is you can get something better than a god dam mondeo with 250,000 miles on it for the same money that WONT feel like it's old and shagged out

A 250k Mondeo is worthless. Seriously, if you get £100 for it I will be amazed. I doubt you'll get anything better for the price of a bag of crisps, which is probably all you'd get for the Mondeo. So you are wrong.

Back in the real world you can get sub 250k Mondeos for virtually any pricepoint. This is why people like them - they are cheap to buy, reliable, well equipped and if in good nick (Which I appreciate many are not) drive pretty nicely.

If there is a car more hateful and crud than a 106 1.5 Diesel I don't know what it is. What a horrible, horrible car.

I call my first witness to the stand - Muffin.

why? at least it doesnt have the sterotype of a horrid mondeo. mondeos remind me of things i cant repeat on these boards.

We are talking 500 quid cars and you care about image? No £500 car has an image beyond 'look a crap banger' so get over that right away.

The 106 is slow, pokey, nasty inside, just.. bad.

Muffin has one, he hates it.

What an odd snob, can't be seen in a Mondeo, but a 106 is perfectly acceptable it's like Tokers view, but wierder.

I hate Mondeos (older ones, yours is ok...ish...prefer the ST250 ;)), and will buy something else instead, but I do understand that they are great cars and keep going with few problems (compared to French things :p).

the 306 is a very different beast to the 106.

Surely for the money a 406 diesel as mentioned by ed would be a fair comparison to a mondeo.

Yes. I was just pointing out the 306 I had lasted a fair while as you'd mentioned them. :)
