Its so poor you would not believe I thought it must be the users PC's slating this everywhere so I wasted 3GB to find out myself  you will not believe how poor it is a new low for Codemasters (is that even possible :().

Shockingly bad

What's so bad about it? Shame, I was really looking forward to a "remake" of Destruction Derby, loved that game as a kid. Not trying to defend Showdown as the videos I've seen don't look that good either, just interested to know a bit more about why it's so poor.

well i have 15gig of bandwidth allowance to use before 15:00, so i'll waste the bandwidth so i can get all angry and see the poor attempt for myself :p

It doesnt suprise me though, codemasters totally lost their way with the DIRT series. Hope they dont do such a **** job with GRID2, whenever that comes ..

There is a glimmer of home though. They have said that Dirt Showdown is the start of a fragmentation of the series and that Dirt 4 will be a more focused rally sim. There is hope then that they have packaged all the **** into this game and removed it from Dirt 4...

A slim hope, but we can dream.

It is awful, literally one map and within 30 seconds of the demo opening up I was being called 'ACE' with rock music pounding, it's just same old codemasters USA appeasement rubbish. I played CM 2005 the other day and I can't believe how low they have sunk, their old rally games were amazing.

Thats good news indeed, i hope its true i will dream too for a day where in a rally game you actually get to drive rally tracks and not forced into boring/****/lame gymkana events or whatever there called.

As for the demo itself, they could have picked a better track, figure of 8 is pretty damn boring, open oval would have proven much more fun imo.

I'd love to believe that, but didn't they say the same for Dirt 3?

Is it do much to ask of Codemasters to just make a Rally game? Cut out all the American X-games BS and leave us with a large selection of rally stages, a big selection of different car classes, and let us go at them?

I can't stand the recent DiRT games, it seems to be turning into Grid with Rally cars.

I play rally games to be speeding through dusty narrow country roads, not to be racing on these poorly made one minute tracks, the most exciting thing we got in DiRT 3 was the occasional water splash.

I also wish they would lay off the American X Games as previously stated, really is annoying.

I wanted to try it for myself, thinking that maybe the really hardcore rally fans on here were just panning it for not being Dirt 1, but it really is ****. I think it was totally dead to me when the announcer shouted "T-boned! Right in the side! The side of AWESOMENESS!". I was disgusted. Boost? A complete lack of integrity to real life handling? Ugh. Do. Not. Want. I liked Dirt 2 a lot, and Dirt 3 had some great stuff in it despite the DLC being pushed in my face, but this is just... no.

Well I think its safe to say the Dirt 2/3/Showdown style game has run its course. Hopefully Codemasters will realise and go and play some CMR games before starting out on Dirt 4.

I don’t really understand what is going on with Codemasters. They gained a huge amount of praise and success with their early racing titles.

TOCA1 /2 solid touring car games.
CMR up until 5 were solid rally games.

Then they did DiRT which was a little different but did offer some good rallying. But from then onwards, with exception to GRiD codemasters haven’t done a racing title that you can call exceptional when comparable to their past titles.

I thought DiRT 2 was very enjoyable but the X games and Americanisation was a little OTT, DiRT 3 promised more Rallies, but where was the Pikes Peak? I hard to turn to DiRT for my fix of hill climbing, a game released in 2007.

We’ll leave the F1 games out of this, they’ve got their own problems however codemasters if they intend to concentrate on just developing racing titles need to return to roots, otherwise they’ll never be well respected.

There is room in the market for a arcade type X Games racer, which is DiRT2 and a full on rally game, which is CMR 2005.

Codemasters need to now do as mentioned and release a good, no holds none X games rally game…
