Behind you... Naked!
Well, last mumf I had come to the conclusion that Im not getting much better in a hurry, and so, I had to bite the bullet and buy myself an electric buggy to help get me around.

Cost a few notes too! - I could have got myself a great PC instead, but hey ho, I have enough PCs and no Buggy, so needs must I s'pose?

Anyway, I bought it so I can simply get to the local town and back... I diead a few times of old age doing it and after some homework, it turns out the bloody thing is only capable of a max of 4MPH

WHAAAAA?

Some buggies have a switch to give it a 4/8top end.

Now, I have the throttle of course, which is a thumb-lever, and on the dashboard, is a potentiometer that also adjusts the power too.

Im thinking that maybe the switch is simply not on mine and that maybe, just maybe I can alter the wiring so that rather thn it being on the 4MPH, I could alter it to stick it onto 8MPH?

I dont know, I have not yet had a look... I dont want to really unless I know that i could be onto something cos I dont want to risk a couple of grands worth of buggy.

Anyone know of anything I could possibly consider?

Just for a giggle though yeh?

Do you have enough battery power to get you the distance you need at 8mph? Also, you will need to know the spec of the motor that is in it, and the current power being used by it to see if it the motor is running at max speed or not.

The increase from 4mph to 8mph converts it from a class 2 scooter to a class 3 scooter. This means you need to register it and it needs a tax disc (albeit free).

It needs to have headlights, brake lights and reflectors plus a rear view mirror.

I know this doesn't address your question, but it should be a consideration.

Average walking speed is around 3mph iirc so what's wrong with topping out at 4? There's nothing worse than nearly getting taken out by someone zipping around in one of these things!

Surely ACTUALLY getting taken out by someone zipping around in one of these things would be worse then nearly? :p

Bloody pensioners are a menace! Get them off our roads!

Oh wait... :p

I just bloody knew the kind of replies I can expect with a question like this.
Then again, it works the other way round...
With a questiomn like this, what the hell answers did I expect? LOL
Seriously though...

My buggy does indeed have Indicators, lights, mirrors etc, so its already road legal in that respect, however, there is no VED / TAX Disc, nor a number plate and I dotn know abotu the legalities on that yet, but I have seen buggies with them on, however, When going to teh doctors the other day, I drogve it right past a couple of Pig... erm, police officers, who just smiled at me.

On the pavements etc...

There are a load of old coffin dodgers around here and yeah, I want to bloody smack the old gits sometimes, they are dangerous sods so I know exactly where you are coming from, however, I will be going along the prom to and from Colwyn Bay and Old Colwyn, and so there is tons of room for loads of walkers, bikers and buggies... I will NOT be using it indoors like some of those buggers.

Similarly, sure, 4MPH is more than 3MPH I agree on that, however, when you have a stretch of 3 miles, traveling at just 4MPH utterly drives you nuts and you go mental before you get to the end... 8MPH will make the journey a whole lot better.

The Motor? - I dont know just yet... I cannot get down to read any numbers and eve nthough I have asked the kisd to help, the best I get is "but daaaaad" etc, so Id rather do it myself.

In a serious serious mode, all I really wanted to know, was whether its likely at all, that my buggy, is using pretty much the same bits that an 8MPH buggy uses, and that if so, then perhaps it coule be re-worked so its in the 8MPH mode instead of the 4MPH mode.

Thanks for the links though... Giggles are still giggles even if urine is taken.

Cheers guys.

I very much doubt your current buggy will be capable of 8mph and they just "didn't include the switch".

It would have been built to a budget set and a top speed of 4mph so I doubt the motor and battery would be capable without serious mods / changing.

Sell it and buy an 8mph one. But they probably cost a lot more than what you paid for yours, for a reason.
