I have disabled page files in winxp.......................but they are still running!

I have restarted several times, no page files are set and task manager says up to 600MB are being used!

I have Norton installed do you think it is doing its own thing at all? Is there anything else that could be causing this................it seems to variate with system usage so I have no idea what it could be.

by the way I have just upgraded so have LOADS of ram to spare..........

well I have currently setup a ramdisk to store my internet and windows temp files.

I have no paging files set and windows is saying that 3336MB are currently allocated yet no HDD has any allocated at all!

it could be the software I am using I will send them an e-mail - on another PC that I have a similar setup there are still page files running!!!

lol, no no, tell us what you really think :p

There seems to be a never ending obsession with people messing around with page file settings.

seems a similar issue with the registry..............experienced users will tell you to leave them alone, others will go ahead and do all kinds of things............

i must say it is lovely having my temp internet files on a ramdisk, youtube is now as fresh as anything - only problem is the person I did it for uses Outlook Express which is now having display issues - am currently on the case, got it working but need to do a few more things..............

awesome link - don't worry I am becoming a convert of having to work with windows!

I will quote an opinion from the link though:

"On Solaris it was/is even more involved. The swap file is mirroed in a ram disk like tmpfs so the memory is always almost full - but it is apparently provable that this is the optimal strategy"

Damn..............
