Disable sound from other programs when watching movies

Hi all,

Ive got my pc hooked up to my tv and use it to watch movies through media player classic. is there a setting or another free app which will prevent any sound output from all other applications when playing a movie... ie xfire, msn, etc etc.

I have also been looking for an application to do this. The only one I have found is this http://www.indievolume.com/ However its not free. Per-Application Volume will also be in Vista. Does anyone know of a freeware application to do the same thing?
