Disabled Steam Account ?

This happened to me when paypal issued a chargeback on a steam payment without my authorisation or even contacting me. I ended up not being able to get that account back.

another reason i prefer retail and avoid digital games

as soon as you link a game to steam tho its locked in there

my account was steam disabled on sunday and they refuse to answer my questions via support and the forum just locks any thread i write about it

Digital stores are good but I prefer multiple stores. I posted a link to Red Faction Guerilla for £3.74 here, and someone posted they weren't interested because it wasn't Steam and they like their games all in one place.

THIS sort of scenario shows why this is a terrible idea.

When it works, Steam is good. But installing/playing your games does rely on active servers or the offline mode working, as well as on your account not randomly being locked out.

The hacked account thing is a big issue too, and Steam should do a lot more to prevent and educate about them.

People only have themselves to blame in almost all hacking cases. If you're stupid enough to give your account details to someone else, you deserve to be hacked. If you're stupid/greedy enough to log-in to what is an obvious phising attempt for free stuff, you deserve to be hacked. If you use a ridiculously weak password (unlikely since phising is easier than forcing) you deserve to be hacked.

I agree, but since it seems to be a common problem Steam must attract a lot of stupid people.

Well what did you expect? Anything that needs an account is no doubt going to be plagued by idiots. And anything that needs an account to protect something of value is going to be a target for scams. Just look at Social sites and MMOs. Facebook is packed with people trying for identity theft. MSN has a lot of those ridiculous 'zomg is this you *random link*' crap and i'm sure i've known a lot of people dumb enough to fall for it. Its not a problem unique to Steam.

how long does it take for a reply on the steam support site?

So you haven't waited 5 days then. I feel sorry for people that have to deal with impatient people like yourself and I mean no offence.
