I may be blind but is there a way to turn off the ability to download files (*.exe etc) in Firefox??

There is an option in IE to turn off downloads, that is what I am looking for in Firefox.

Also is there anyway to password protect/control access to Firefox's settings? Something like a user control plugin perhaps.

No plugin's or tools??

Thought that a lot of people were into Firefox.

use these two addons to remove the crappy adverts from all pages

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

(less crud for people to click on to lead to bad sites)

I have ablock plus and filterg on my own install of Firefox at home.

My younger brother was causing a few problems by downloading crap onto his pc. At the time I locked down IE6 to stop all downloads, had anti-spyware plus Kaspersky AV installed which kept everything ok.

The little goit went and downloaded Limewire just after IE7 was released (I had blocked access to the Tools settings in IE6 which was then bypassed with IE which put an option to get to Tools on the toolbar :(). After I removed the rubbish again, I locked down IE7 to prevent all access to settings to stop him re-enabling downloads.

Last week or so, he installed Firefox onto the PC (not sure where he got the install from, could have been any of my other brother's PCs) and again downloaded Limewire. I've since removed it all but will go back and re-install Firefox with the lovely tool to lock him out from all settings options.

filterset g updates adblock plus for you
If you have the latest version of the Adblock Plus extension, then the Adblock Filterset.G Updater extension isn't really needed any more as Adblock Plus includes filter subscriptions which you can subscribe to as well as updating them automatically. Why have two extensions when one can do both? :p

He sounds like quite a monkey :p Can't you just remove his admin rights so he can't install anything?
