Just setting up my father in laws new Dell laptop that he's acquired. Now two problems I've come across that I'm stumped on since I'm a bit rusty as I've been using OSX for sometime now.

1 - how do I disable Macfee security centre? I've tried removing all the services in msconfig but they just come back on - went to protected services box in the control panel but disabling this made no effect.

2 - Just downloading some files through firefox and when they complete they now just disappear, no warnings or anything, same in IE as well. I had downloaded quite a few things (firefox, tbird, vlc, updates etc, nothing nefarious) without issue so for it just to crop up is just confusing.

Just uninstall Mcafee and put Microsoft Security Essentials on it.

Press Ctrl + J in Firefox

They'll be in Start, 'username', Downloads

I was going to put NOD on instead; but rather than uninstall, surely just disabling all ther services stops it from running in the first place?

I've looked in their, just nothing - you see the part download whilst it's d/ling but when it completes its gone - opening the d/l window doesn't help as it says error can't locate file (or simething similar)

:confused::confused:
