Disabling Status bar-like thing in FF5?

Is there any way to remove the little popups that come up at the bottom of FF4/5? You know, the ones that say like, "Waiting for overclockers.co.uk", "Connecting to overclockers.co.uk" etc? I have irlen syndrome and it's bloody offputting

It can't be done via the about:config page unfortunately.
But there's an addon called: autoHideStatusbar
Not sure if it's FF5 compatible though. Try it.

Speaking of FF5 oddities, why is it that the "aero" border randomly changes shading when I hover my mouse in random places on hyperlinks on the page?

I've always disliked FF, but thought I'd give FF another chance with FF5. I'm starting to wonder why I bothered. Opera > *.*

As you can see, the shading on the Aero border moves by around 15 pixels, whilst this might not seem like a lot, it gets bloody annoying when it makes your window "flash" when browsing.

Looked at that. Status bar's been hidden in FF5

whatever this is it's not the status bar any longer.

~above - can't recreate that on mine. Very odd.
