Disabling touch sensitive mouse on laptop

usually you have a key on the keyboard "FN" you press that and another key usually coloured blue with a picture of a little hand in a square to turn it off.

This is a feature i like about my mates HP lappy, I dont think my Dell has this opton though either. If you actually never plan on using it at all just take the keyboard off and you should be able to unplug the ribbon cable for it (the touch pad that is not the keyboard obv. :D)

I know you have looked but sometimes in the bios it is called something odd like 'legacy pointing device' or similar so it might be worth checking again just in case.

HP laptops are indeed quite good for this as they have a simple button beside the trackpad, not that it helps you much. :)

It's a Fujitsu Siemens laptop. Their website hasn't been helpful at all.

I have looked already in the bios and it really is lacking in options, about the only thing I can change is the boot order and a few power saving options. :/

On my Inspiron 6400, If you installed the drivers that came with the laptop it gave you the option to switch it off when you plugged in an external mouse..

Hmm....I have all the drivers installed (I presume) from the CD's that were provided for me but there still isn't an option in there.

It really should be, a quick google suggests that I'm not the only person who suffers from this problem and can't fix it :/

Control Panel > Mouse > Device Settings:

Tick "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"

If you don't have a "device settings" tab in your "Mouse" applet in control panel, then you haven't got the synaptics touchpad software installed.
