I bought a EliteXstream 800W earlier this year and first thing I had to do was open it up because the cables inside were catching on the fan and making a right racket, a few months later (yesterday) and it just suddenly cuts outs and dies.

So of course now I can't RMA it because I had to void the warranty fixing their shoddy workmanship, not impressed at all my system isn't even all that demanding, no SLI etc, shan't be buying their PSU's again.

Maybe you should have returned the thing when you first noticed the noise. You made the decision to invalidate the warranty.......

You should make a thread on the OCZ support forum, you will probably find that they're extremely helpful.

it's quite a lot of hassle to return a product and especially inconveniencing with such a core component as PSU, when I opened it up I did so under the impression that it would last more than 6 months.

I'm not complaining I accept that I voided the warranty to fix the noise, I just want to inform others of my experience.

Agreed, the first thing you do when you get a faulty product isn't send it back, it's "can I fix it"! Or in my case, can anyone I know fix it!

Also dissapointed with OCZ recently as I got 4GB of their RAM and 1 stick was dead, had to send em both back as they came in a pack. Mind you, RAM has a tendancy to die on arrival for me!

well as i keep telling people any psu can die at anytime.

if you noticed a problem with it u should have sent it back, thats what the warranty there for. i know its a hassle to prepare that but its better than losing money.

OCZ customer support is awesome, give them a try before throwing it away, as said above the support they give over forums etc is great.

I totally agree, they sent me a 6 pin to 8 pin PCI-express power cable for free.

Did not even have to pay for postage and they sent it from California :D

It doesn't sound like PC POWER AND COOLING's build quality and experience has had any effect on OCZ power supllies yet.

I'd have thought they'd have taken thier knowledge on-board when they bought them out.

Entirely different designs and makers and (component) quality levels which very probably continues.

For example that GameXstream of w00dy85 is FSP Epsilon based and has out of specs ripple if actually loaded.

Memory is actually one of those components seriously exposed to anykind ESD.
So if you've had unusually many faulty memories fault might not be in them...
