Disappointing CrossFire performance with triple screens

Just moved to Ivy, mainly so i could get 8x 8x PCI-e and go crossfire.

I play racing sims, so haven't tried any mainstream games (not my thing). But i am severely confused as to my frame rates so far.

On a single screen, it's like this:

1x 6970 (2GB) + 1x Screen:

Avg: 198.133
Min: 135
Max: 262

2x 6970 + 1x Screen:

Avg: 364.583
Min: 255
Max: 479

But when i use triple screens, the frame rate is no different with 1 or 2 cards.

Could i possibly have hit bandwidth limitations for 8x 8x?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated as i'm stumped.

If you're getting an average of 135FPS shouldn't you just turn crossfire off for some games anyway? You can't really make a proper and valid example on such a small cross section of games.

If you go and test a wide range of games you'll get much better results that can be worked with.

I only bought it for sims, so while i may do further testing in some others, i'm sticking with this testing for now.

Second, it's testing, so i have no intention of running crossfire for these results, i'm trying to eventually get triple screens (6020x1200) with max settings and 4xSSAA on and get above 60fps! :)

I think i just had a breakthrough - downloaded "AMD Catalyst Application Profiles" which are the profiles for CrossFire, and i think i've had an enormous frame rate bost in crossfire on triples. Will test more.

Man, you take a break from cutting edge for more than 6 months, and coming back is seriously confusing. Why do AMD make you hunt and download something extra for Crossfire to work properly that it never informs you of needing? Lucky i remembered this, i guess.

That's all well and good, but again it's not particularly valid if you're using 1 game as an example. :)

It's just to rule out whether that particular software likes crossfire/Dual GPUs or not. Good that it looks like you've made some progress with that particular game though.

i guess that just shows your ignorance towards sims, not mine. You try getting 60fps in rFactor 2 with triple screens.

Go back to COD and your hacks, kid :)
