Can't beleive it, never done anything this stupid.

must have been a bit tired, whilst deleting another folder I accidentally deleted my 'my documents'

Cancelled it when I realised what was happening and only two folders are left, namely - my music and my photos, everything else gone, 40+ gbs worth. I turned my pc straight off and went to bed. I've had a browse of the forums is Recuva worth giving a go or is it all gone? Thankfully i've never had to attempt a recovery job.

try recuva

or just restore from your latest backup...

Like he has a backup with that reaction? ;) Nah maybe he does. What you want to minimize is using the hard disk at all. What you ideally want to do is boot up the hard disk that had the stuff on it on another system as a slave and immediately attempt recovery assuming you do NOT have a backup. The more you use the HDD then the sectors start to get overwritten with new stuff making recovery less likely.

Your on windows 7?

Have you looked into the shadow files to see if anything can be recovered?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx

I shall look into that, thx.

Windows 7 yes, no backup /slapwrists.

I do have a few hard drives knocking about that probably have some of the data on there but none of the newer stuff. I shut the pc down straight away without thinking.

I'm not at home atm so if UKDTweak's suggestion fails i'm guessing I fire up Recuva and try to restore to one of my old hd's ?

You MIGHT be able to restore selectively or do a system restore if you configured SR correctly or left it on defaults.

You could also use Previous Versions by right clicking the folder the deleted documents were in, choosing properties then clicking previous versions tab.

Also, keep damn backups!!!

Thx for the help chaps, i've managed to recover my documents and a few other things. Lost a lot of large game patches and programme files but they are replaceable at least.

Think I may invest in an external backup drive:p

Well atleast it wasn't a total loss then.

Is there not a way to remove the delete option from my documents folder, does seem a bit stupid to me that you have the choice in the first place.
