So ive been an idiot and cut through the purple wire on my psu 24pin mobo connector after braiding my cables !!! I know what an idiot :(

Now thw mobo light goes on and off when i splice it back together but it wont power on, no fans spin no nothing just the mobo led illuminated

Do i need a new psu ? Is this one now dead even though power seems to be going to the board ?

Thanks for all your help guys ! I cant thank you enough....

will try to resolder it tonight and heatshrink it for protection and check those cables cos im bound to have made a mistake somewhere

will report back

Well when i tested it in the other pc i left everything else plugged in except the 24 pin mobo lead and the fans spin and lights come on etc so surely it can only be the cpu ?

Like saod before the mobo led works so it cant be the mobo

Ok everythings out of the mobo apart from the 24 pin, cpu, and cpu power cable but still nothing .....

How can i tell if its the motherboard or the cpu ? Dont have any other cpus to test with ?

To be honest, it sounds like its most likely the mother board in my mind ! All this talk about a new setup is a little ott in my opinion as ive narrowed it down to either the mobo or cpu and its most likely the mobo

Just a quick question on the side, ive got the psu connected to the mobo and left it switched on and the chipset heatsink is boiling ! Is this normal ? Or a sign of a fried mobo ?

Well i used the old 300w psu out my old machine and it didnt power up but that may be because its only 300 ?

Would it be sensible to assume as it was the psu i damaged it would be a good idea to order a new psu and try it then if it doesnt power up rma the board ?
