I am awaiting a SSD. If do an image backup using "Windows Backup" and transfer it to the SSD, when i bootup using the SSD (after changes in the bios) will the computer start as normal

Thanks

There's more to it than that. I don't know the steps off hand but if you just clone the drive you won't get TRIM support.

Open up a Command Prompt and type in:

fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

It will either give you a 0 or a 1 as a result. If you get a zero, that means TRIM is enabled. If you get a 1, make sure you have a TRIM-compatible SSD—you may have to Google your SSD's model number to find out.

windows 7 and 8 will auto do this for you even on an image, well depending on image software of course, most do.

for me a fresh install is always better, and quicker and causes less agro down the line as you never know if there's something wrong on a older installation etc

then again on a new pc, sdd install 12mins max inc drivers then updates (get a roll up pack with them all on) so you dont have to keep downloading them, saves time, add a few programs, alter the odd settings, all under 30 mins (just) if you do it often enough.

If you are coming from a HDD you might have alignment issues also.

Personally, go for a fresh install. Something like Macrium Reflect Free has some alignment correcting features also I think.

Thanks for all the help and advice
The SSD is a Samsung 840 and i have since found out that it comes with "Data Migration" software which i assume will do everything that is neccessary

Once again thanks for all your help

Merry Xmas and a Happy new Year
