Hi guys,

Not for me, so don't be concerned. But, if a colleague was to attend a disciplinary hearing, could they request 2 trade union representatives attend or are they limited to one? I know one is a little inexperienced than the other and still in training. But, It would be a good idea to have two to help fight their case. I just wondered if this is allowed or if there are some trade union rules behind this?

Thanks.

Only once had to deal with this (on the other side, as the person doing the hearing) and I seem to remember that there wasn't a number of reps specified, it merely said that they had the right to request union representation.

I'd suggest that your colleague ask and say that the second person is in training. I'd have allowed it as long as its clear which of the two were going to be in the lead. I would have thought that with that caveat, most employers would allow it.

Also have been in the disciplinary on the naughty seat, right at the start of my career. I didn't bother with any representation however and instead spent 30 mins harranging the HR lady with how ridiculous the case against me was and demolishing every aspect of it (it was dropped pretty quickly afterwards). She probably hated me!
