Not having much luck at the moment!

I noticed a brown/yellow patch on the TV last night when this advert came on:

It's a Hisense TV, 4 years and 9 months old, so JUST within the 5 year warranty from Currys; spoke to them this morning, provided a video etc. they've confirmed it is still within warranty, and they're collecting it tomorrow, advising it will be back next Wednesday.

I'm guessing this is likely to be a new screen job, this wouldn't be caused by faulty electronics would it? Chances of them still being able to source parts seem unlikely, and the TV is discontinued, so unless they have old stock somewhere, I'm not filled with confidence that they'll be able to repair or replace it - especially within a week!

What's the most likely outcome?
  • Replacement with an equivalent spec. current model?
  • Replacement with an equivalent value current model?
  • Voucher for the purchase price?
  • Voucher for the "current" value - reduced based on the lifespan (the TV also came with a 10 year burn- in warranty direct from Hisense, so would this be a good argument that it would be expected to last 10 years, so 50% would be a fair offer)?

Looks like one of the leds is burning out or has discoloured its lens. Knowing that these things are held together by a lot of tape, hopes and dreams, Id dare say theyll replace the unit hopefully with current like for like spec wise.
I returned an LG a couple of years ago, fix took longer than they stated so gave us vouchers instead but only as they didnt have an exact same spec unit so I added cash and got a G series OLED.

Delivery due today, and no update - gave them a call and they're waiting for the part from Hisense, with no ETA, and apparently there is no time limit on repairs under the standard 5 year warranty...

Consumer rights act, rather then warranty - it seems by agreeing to repair/replace they have admitted there is an inherent fault.

Right to repair or replacement

(1)This section applies if the consumer has the right to repair or replacement (see section 19(3) and (4)).

(2)If the consumer requires the trader to repair or replace the goods, the trader must—
(a)do so within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to the consumer, and
(b)bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).

The problem with that being, it looks like the warranty will give me a voucher for the cost of an equivalent replacement (up to the amount I paid), whereas pursuing it under the CRA will likely result in a refund significantly reduced to account for the use I've had out of it.

(based on various posts I've found on MoneySavingExpert etc.)

Yeah good point, I forgot to consider that, you've had 5 years use out of it, so if they can't repair it, they may well deduct 5 years worth of 'enjoyment' from any settlement.

Exactly, obviously I'd rather know sooner than later so I can look for something to replace the tiny bargain basement thing we're using atm, but I think the best option is to give them a few weeks at least in the hope that they are able to get the required part, or at least a decent chunk towards a new one.

I wouldn't mind so much if they'd at least let me know there was a delay so I wasn't expecting it today

Welp, just had an SMS through from them saying they can't repair it, so they're sending a voucher within 24 hrs! Guess I better create a "spec me" thread :p
