Disconnection 1-3 times a day?

Hi, just wandering if this is a problem my ISP can fix.

I currently get disconnected 1-3 times a day. The DSL light goes out on my router and comes straight back on and connects, have tried unplugging phones and have also tried two different filters, along with two different routers.

Here are some stats:
ADSL
Type Fast Path
Status SHOWTIME

Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps)
8128Kb 448Kb
Noise Margin
6 24
Output power(dBm)
121 199
Attenuation(dB)
26 13

I was on Lineone, which got taken over by Tiscali which got taken over by TalkTalk, I get around 6Mbits on speed tests and around 30 ping.

I see you are on fast path,
This can cause a connection to become intermittent even on the best of lines,

Why not give them a call and have to have this changed to interleaving,
If you are a gamer fastpath is better for ping times and so on but there is other things the isp can do to help with this such as changing the interleaving depth (Max delays)

yeah, that's why I didn't really want it changing, I only really use my internet for gaming and general web browsing. What would you say was the best ping you would get on interleaving (considering the ping I currently have)

Youd probably be looking at more like 40ms ping with the delay set at 8 and 60+ with it at default of 32.

Why is it disconnecting though is what you should be finding out. A
Having interleaved is just covering the problem.

What happens when you disconnect? Is it at a certain time of day? Is someone on the phone at the time? What happens to the Signal to Noise ratio at disconnect times?

Theres a program called routerstats which I used to use With my netgear that could log snr, connection speed and stuff to help me identify an issue I was having that was similar to yours. In the end I bought a good filter from adslnation and it's been fine since (3 weeks).

Disconnects are random, the DSL light on the router goes off and reconnects, nobody is on the phone and have tried it with phones unplugged and with different routers and fulters. Haven't checked the Signal to Noise ratio so will try and see, tried that program but couldn't get it to work with my router. Might have a look at a better filter, but I don't think it will make a difference. Do you think the length/quality of the DSL cable going to my router might be the cause?

When my router was disconnecting the SNR dropped right off (down to near zero) and was especially pronounced when someone was on the phone, but strangely not every time.

You could try plugging your router into the master socket and see if the situation improves. This was going to be my next check after changing the filter and before ripping out all the cheap extension wiring I did 18 months ago and replacing with proper BT twisted pair cable.

Routerstats does have a manual configuration option. I've not fiddled with it as the latest version now supports my TP-Link router.

+1 to trying in the test socket/straight without anything else plugged in. Length/quality of dsl cable does make a difference, especially if it's very long. google quiet line test and see what that brings up too
