What is Discord?
Discord is a new voice chat app that has a lot of the features of ts/mumble/vent but looks to be a lot more open, easy to use and has a very dappy interface. You can use it through a browser or by downloading the app for MAC/Windows, IOS & Android, a linux version is "coming soon". Check out the lovely interface below:

Discord also has a pretty well formed text chat feature with the ability to send media too.

Why should we use Discord?
I guess no reason, I know people from OCUK pop onto TS and a lot of people use mumble etc.

I think the best reason is that you don't need to rent a server, in theory everyone can have their personal channels and different gaming channels all on one service rather than hopping about the other competitors.

Only time will tell how it works with a large number of users.

Where's the OCUK channel?

Right here.

I look forward to hearing all of your manly voices soon, and Gamble's.

I might have to look into this instead of the OcUK Community TS.

Going to investigate it a bit more in depth today. Thanks for the headsup Skyfall

downloaded this today, seem very easy to use and lightweight! other half is at a Hen-Do so plan on play either CSGO/GTA or A3 Exile all night obviously would prefer playing in a group!

Main advantage of this being you don't have to rent or own a server.

Yeah I closed down the Unofficial OcUK Teamspeak for this.

Mush nicer to use, more intuitive, better UI, looks modern.

Very impressed, I'd give it 8.5/10.

Can't seem to connect to the OCUK server you've made in the OP did you delete it or I'am just being noob?

I like the voice activation feature, unlike TS/Vent were you can hear people breathing or sniffing or even worse taptaptaptap from a mech keyboard when they're not using push to talk. You can set it to only transmit your output once it hits a certain DB level, so if your talking it will pick it up clearly, or if your Darth Vadar others won't hear your constant breathing

That's in Teamspeak too.

NICE, just started using this as well!

I'll jump on, now maybe I can wrangle some mates to play online games with.

I still have a mumble server that I've been considering opening up and configuring for chosen people to admin. Obviously if this is more popular then I won't bother though :)

Seems like the jury is out. Are there that many people still using it?

No, but then again people have been using other programs for a decade, even if Discord is superior, it will take a while for people to switch.

Discord is pretty good TBH, Josh has one we use for BF4. As it's free, anyone can set one up. I'm not sure how it scales with number of people on one server though.

The only issue is that servers are invite only, you can't just advertise your IP and see if people turn up.

You can Apparantly create a link that never expires so I guess that's just as good as displaying an IP.

Yeah, the above link does that. By default the codes or links are only valid for 24 hours, but if you click advanced you can set it to never expire. The handy thing is you can still revoke that invite at a later time if it's attracting the wrong people, and then create a new code.
