Discovery 1 thermostat

Hi , just changed the thermostat in my disco mpi , is it normal to have the thermostat wedged in the top hose , if so this has got to be the easiest thermo to change all i needed was a screwdriver.

Mine was two bolts and a gasket on my MX.

3 screws in the Manta, it's in a housing which feeds to the top hose.

Renault 5's also have the stat fitted in the top hose. Less snapped housing bolts
