Hi, I'm in a tricky situation at work, for one I'm not particularly happy. I'm having difficulty with a certain manager who is making my days miserable, I (in fact much of the IT dpt.) is made to feel worthless at times.

I've put in a week of working until 8pm to make deadlines recently, and I'm on 24 hour call almost 2 weeks per month.

That aside, much of the work the company does is gay (litterally), and most of the male employees are gay, probably 95%, out of about 20 males.

I'm the only non-gay programmer in the IT dpt. I just feel I'm treated differently - recently a new programmer was taken on (was also gay), and within 3 weeks was offered a paid week in Berlin at some conference about the work I was taken on to do!

He had a wonderful time and had many expensive meals, etc, and gets showered with praise while I'm stuck writing a laborious application which I've been on for months.

I feel like everything I enjoy doing and am good at, and the parts where my experience is most useful is taken by this new guy, and I'm to say the least a bit miffed :(

I'm getting really stressed out as I constantly feel inadequate as I'm not delivering as much as him, but I'm just given the crap jobs.

When I was taken on I was led to beleive I would be doing basically what he's been given to do. Is this discrimination, because I'm not that way inclined? I could understand if my ability was lacking, but it's not - they know I'm good at what I do.

Bah, what shall I do, I'm sure some of you guys have been in the position where you feel bad / miserable at work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

So, in other words, your company is gay?

I would advise that you raise your concerns with your manager. Being prejucided (sp?) over your sexual orientation is wrong.

You could always become the office **** tease :p

Do gay people put down homosexuality on their CVs now?

moral of the story is, dont work for queers.

OOO theres someone who is slightly homophobic then ;)

Anyway, I would guess its like some sort of wierd sex discrimination there - like others have said, quiet word with the boss about your concerns would be your starter for 10.
