I can't compare tattoos, which are usually personal and mean something to the those who have them, to someone who decides to stretch their ear lobes beyond repair. Most tattoos can be covered up so they don't offend anyone in a professional working environment, a bloody great hole in your ear is always visible and I don't know how you would ever get a job other than working in a skate/independant clothes shop or similar. Luckily there aren't that many of them but whenever I see one I just think that guy has gone to extreme lengths to effectively scream "look at me! look at me!"

Trilbies are cool (sadly I can't pull one off :D) but they don't leave you disfigured so hardly comparable.
