remove floppy from floppy drive, or remove usb keys

dont have floppy
dont have any usb keys in
to get round the problm i have to keep on sticking the cd in which i shouldnt hve to

in that case, change the boot priority (or boot order) in your bios (usually DEL or F2 just after turning the pc on)

jumped to those two suggestions because they're the most common reason for that message :)

boot deviced are cd roms and hd

ide mater hd
ide slave none
ide dvd rom
ide dvd rw

and boor priority

hd
cd
floppy - disable as dont have one

how many hard drives did you have when you installed vista? (the boot info might be on another drive)

vistabootpro might be able to fix it for you

-edit, just had a thought, in the boot priority, does it let you choose say..

HDD0, HDD1, HDD2, CD etc.. HDD0 means first hard drive (HDD1 or IDE1 would mean the secondary (or even slave) drive -worth having a look in bios :)

The vista disc will fix it - bung it in, choose repair, choose 'fix startup problems' (or similar, can't remember the wording).

It will have detected the windows installation and will fix the first issue it finds with the bootloader process. As such, you may need to run it a few times if there's more than one problem:

(I've had bootloader missing, but there was no MBR pointing to it either - so it needed 2 goes)
