Disk Boot Failure on NT4 , help please

i have a pc that i took the hard drive out of to put in to an external USB case to try to get the data, but when i plugged it in it did not recognize the drive in windows.

so i put it back and now im getting "disk boot failure please insert system disk"

It has NT4 on it, do i have to boot from NT4 boot disks or will any boot disk do?

is the data still likely to be there ?

Have you checked that the BIOS boot order hasn't changed?

yes. its recognizing the HD just not booting from it.. and its the first device to boot from

I dont have any floppy discs either, to try to download a boot disc.

ill have to go out later and buy some just to try it with.
