Hi guys

I just rebooted my system which was working absolutely fine.

First it got stuck on the Windows Loading blue bar that happens before it gets into Windows. So to resolve this I loaded Windows PE and ran a Chkdsk /f. It then let me reboot and it got into windows fine.

Now I have rebooted again and I am getting

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I simply cannot get this fixed.

Here's what I have tried.

1. Resetting CMOS - both battery and jumper
2. Disconnecting all other harddrives and devices but the harddrive I want it to boot from.
3. Made sure Harddrive is selected as 1. in boot order in bios and it's the correct harddrive selected.
4. Booted from Recovery Console and trying a fixmbr
5. Different Sata/Pwr cable to hdd

I am pretty sure the harddrive still works.

Please any help much appreciated !!!!

Will check back regularly.

Hardware is

Abit IP35 Pro
320GB Samsung F1

Using XP Pro.

I do not have a backup. But I can see the files when I boot from XPE so I am sure they are still intact..

Not sure why something like this would happen.

The Abit motherboard also dropped my Raid 0 a few months back, it's proving flakey :(

Ok update -

I have backed up the files I need from the drive but would still prefer a repair to a reinstallation as the drivers take agesss.

I have tried a fixboot, it did nothing.

I am currently running a bootable Fitness Test on the harddrive.

After this I will try to repair the XP Installation.

If that does not work I will probably just bite the bullet and reinstall. As I need it back up and running.

Ok well I tried a chkdsk /f I thought they corrected bad sectors?

Anyways XP Repair option was not even available.

I am going to reinstall, just a pain really as I have so many devices and drivers often take many hours to deal with. Just one of those things I guess...

Thanks for your help anyway guys!

Ok I had installed Windows XP and all my drivers.

I go to connect my other harddrives after a shutdown then power on.

I get this damn DISK BOOT FAILURE again !!!!

I disconnect the harddrives I had just connected, and once again it is still here.

Now this hardddrive passed all tests in Seatools and Hitachi Drive Fitness so I know it's fine.

Any help much appreciated ! :(

Hey guys

I have tried changing the ports for the drives.

The drives do not have jumpers.

The bios is not the latest but I do not have a USB disk or floppy drive to do it right now.

It worked fine on this for a whole year until the other day when it messed up.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

Humour me here....leave the xp installation disk in drive whilst booting but dont press any key.

Sorry been away a bit.

This actually works !!! Thanks!

But I would like to do without it coming up still. I have reinstalled XP a few times and always this error comes back after a couple of reboots and will not go away.
