Disk cloning issues.

OK so I've just fitted a new 250gb SSD and a 1Tb HDD to my computer with the intention of replacing my old existing 1Tb HDD which is showing signs of failing sectors, with the new and faster SSD and new HDD for storage.
The new drives are both fully working, formatted and recognised by the computer.
The existing HDD which is still in use, has one partition (named drive C) for OS, programs etc and the remaining disk (named drive D) is used for storage of photos etc.

The OS partition is only 127Gb of which 110 Gb is used so the new SSD has plenty of headroom. The OS is Windows 7 Home Edition.

I'm trying to do a clone of the operating system partition to the new SSD rather than a full re-install with the aid of the free software 'MACRIUM' and have tried numerous times but each time it ends up with 'Clone failed error 8' after a few minutes.
Macrium recognises the new drives too so that is not the issue.
I also have no issues with transferring files from the existing HDD to the new drives so they all communicate fine.
I'm sure others must have needed to clone a drive at some time or other and used this software to do the same task so the question is: is there something I'm overlooking?

The other question is: If I can't get the partition cloned successfully which looks unlikely at the moment, would I just be better off re-installing Windows 7, Office, Adobe Photoshop and the other progs I've installed on the original drive to the SSD and once everything is completed, go into the bios and reset the boot order so that I boot from the SSD which would seem the logical thing to do?
The issue with re-installing everything rather than cloning it is that I'd have to dig the disks out of my loft ( if they are still there or I can even find them as we had a big clear out a couple of years ago) and it's 7 years since I last did an install of those programs, hence my preference to clone rather than re- install.

Any help or advice to get around this issue would be very much appreciated.

Have you done a chkdsk on the OS partition? If there are bad sectors there that could be one reason why the cloning is failing.

Another option is to maybe create a backup image first, and then try restore that to the new drive?

Thanks for the reply.
I thought about bad sectors being the cause of the failure.
I've just tried cloning again and got the following: 'Error 8 Write failed -55- The specified network resource or device is no longer available.'

I closed the error message and failed screen and went back to the clone summary and it now states that 'Destination disk not found'! I find that strange as just prior to that, the same summary identified the destination accurately. Having checked I can now no longer see the drive so I'll need to restart the computer and go to disk management to get it to make it visible again.

The software obviously begins to write to the SSD as there is a file now present but it's looking for something that is apparently missing which causes the cloning to fail????

How is the SSD connected to the system? USB or SATA? Seems like it's more of an issue of the system randomly losing connection to the SSD instead.

The SSD is connected via SATA cable and SATA connector so I can't see that being the issue.
The drive only disappears after I try cloning. In order to get it to reappear, I have to restart the computer and access the drive via disk management and after setting it to simple drive, it says that it's a healthy primary drive. When I check the list of disks via 'Computer', it reappears along with the others.

I can't find my original copy of Windows 7 so that's a pain but my neighbour has given me a genuine copy complete with key which should help me test out the SSD but before I do that I think I'll try one more time but this time cloning the partition to the new HDD. If it works that way then it shows there is an issue with the SSD somewhere but I suspect the same will happen and that there is an issue with the software.

Had a failed to clone issue a little while back
What i had to do was to make sure `ALL`partitions had a drive letter even recovery
Been a little while but i am quite sure it fixed my problem, cannot remember the error code so it may not apply to you

The two partitions on the original HDD are labeled B & C and the new drives labeled J & K ( I have 2 optical drives and a multi card reader which are all labeled from D through to I ) so they should all be identifiable.
It's really doing my head in!:(

I had this same exact error. What ended up working for me was creating an image on another drive and then restoring that image instead of a direct clone. All then went smoothly.

Never encountered this error before and I've been using Reflect for a while. It may be a bug in the latest version or something.
