Disk Drill and Recovery

Storage files all a jumble if i am honest ? ,kind of odd i have been using my wd duo 20tb to store all my photos video using the lightroom catalogue ,when recently last few days i could not see the drive or files in folders ,supposedly i thought had around 6tb of stored images ,when i scoured through disk managment i found my wd duo had not been allocated just a black bar instead of blue , oops i thought my files just dissapeared well obviously not using disk drill it has managed to locate all the files that i thought were on the drive and some more that i thought i had removed ,so it turned out i now have 12tb to recover ,now recovery on my raid duo is not going recover 12tb as my raid array only allows 9tb or so which i would never utilize fully as i never allow my drives to go over 60-70% ,i have just installed another external das qnap 32tb raid 1 array 16tb or 14tb when formatted ,so i am now in progress of recovering files to the qnap which is a bit labour intensive ,i am near the end of this process just wondering if i accidently formatted my wd my book ? to cuase this problem and what procedure i should now go to when files are recovered do i formatt the wd duo drive when so called files are recovered to the das qnap external drive ,I always find i never have enough space ,now i am thinking i should have cloud storage as a backup also but i can imagine how long the recovery would take using internet speeds ,
